Governance

All advisory and counseling services are governed through a Memorandum of Agreement between itself and Norfil Foundation, governing that partnership.

All expenditures are approved in advance by the Society’s Board of Directors, and funds are forwarded approximately quarterly to Norfil Foundation directly, in support of the Metro Manila program.

Sister Families Society is a Canadian charity, registered with the Canadian Revenue Agency. All donations are receipted and can be used as a tax deduction in Canada.

Financial statements are prepared, and reviewed every three months, and are available on request. Each program issues a monthly statistical report which is sent on to Sister Families in Vancouver.

The President of Sister Families has had an extensive career in social work and family counseling in Vancouver, and provides professional consultation to each program, on at least a monthly basis.

On an approximate annual basis, principals of Sister Families travel to the Philippines to meet with Social Workers involved with each program, as well as local supportive groups and media.  The cost of travel is currently borne by the principals personally, or through funds donated specifically for that purpose.  No general donations are used to support travel.
